This reserve, situated on blown sand overlying Mercia Mudstones, comprises four main habitats in its 13ha - 2ha of birch
woodland with some oak, 1.2ha of worked out sand pit containing open water,
and further areas of worked sand and opened habitat, the latter colonised
by grases with some Heather and Gorse.
By an agreement with British Industrial Sand, the Trust hopes to see the creation of a more
extensive wetland complex over an area of up to 16ha, this will involve the removal of some areas
of birch woodland in the reserve to accommodate sand extraction and subsequent restoration for wildlife.
