The DDOS...

Calling all organisations...

Scottish Pied Wagtails wintering in Doncaster, locally reared Sand Martins roosting in Sussex reed beds en-route to Africa and the oldest recorded Willow Warbler in the country are just some of the fascinating facts established by Doncaster’s ringers.

Affiliated to the D.D.O.S the Doncaster Ringing Group is typical of organisations supported by the society.

If your organisation can boast similar aims and sympathetic objectives why not contact is now.
Working together in partnership we can guarantee the future security of Doncaster’s birds.

The birds of Doncaster…

The rich and varied habitats that surround Doncaster have generated an enviable species count nearly 300 species since records began.
Our superb wetlands host a great variety of wildfowl, warblers and waders.

Garganey, Read Warbler and little ringed plover are typical whilst our woodlands are the home of Sparrow Hawks, Hawfinches and still have fewer Nightingales.
Farmland and relic heathland contribute Nightjars, Quail and Corn Bunting.

Spring and summer migrants enhance the local birdlife with regular sightings of Osprey, Dotterel and Wheatear to name but a few.
Add to this list rarities like Red Kite, Montagu’e Harrier, Alpine Swift, Crane, Caspian Tern and Lapland Bunting and the full tapestry of Doncaster’s bird life begins to emerge.
