This site was established in 1971; 6ha, managed by the Y.W.T.; located 13 km south-east of Doncaster.
It is this soiled condition, combined with a fluctuating water table and poor drainage, which have created the conditions for the development of a very important area of species-rich grassland.
Surrounding the open part of the Common areas of scrub to the north and woodland to the south, both comprising a modest mixture of timber including birch, oak, Ash, Hawthorne and Sycamore.
These areas and the 'edge' habitats which connect them to the common provide the main ornithological, interest and over 60 species of birds have been recorded.
