Sandall Beat Wood

Sandall Beat Wood was declared a local Nature Reserve by the former Doncaster County Borough Council in 1964. The site is sandwiched between the Doncaster suburbs of Intake and Cantley.

The main value of the site arises from the great variety of uneven age structure of its deciduous woodland.
In addition there is a small area of open water and fen, and a number of large dykes form distinct habitats in there own right.
The variety in the woodland is considerable, ranging from beach, oak and Sweet chestnut, some of which are over 150 years old, through limes, Ash, sycamore, Holly and Scots Pine of various ages, to younger stands of European Larch, Alder, White Poplar, Norway Spruce and Scots Pine.
