50 Years for the DDOS!!

The DDOS celebrates its Golden Jubilee in 2005.   On Thursday 28th July 1955 founder members set out the Society's aims as follows:

1. To observe, study and record the birdlife of an area within a ten-mile radius of Doncaster
2. To foster an interest in birdlife in general
3. To support and encourage all bird protection measures

These aims have been followed throughout the 50-year history of the DDOS.   Scientific recording of Doncaster district birds has resulted in a prolific output of published data, and must be considered a notable achievement, with 88 publications produced under its name so far.

DDOS membership grew to a mid-1970s peak of 175, with a large number of young members joining at that time.

Society members have a strong tradition of supporting voluntary conservation management at a number of local nature reserves.

This year's Golden Jubilee is a time to celebrate half a century of DDOS achievements.
