Thorpe Marsh

The reserve comprises an interesting mosaic of unimproved pasture, open water, marsh, scrub and some small areas of semi-mature woodland, the latter mostly on a disused railway embankment.
The development of the reserve arose through a fascinating mixture of the protection of long established habitats and the creation of a major new waterbody - Thorpe Mere.
This site is an excellent example of turning an otherwise potentially damaging activity to positive use.
(Baring in mind the power station is now closed down, and no-longer in use)
